Argon Technology introduces a low cost solution for managing networked notebooks and laptops that works seamlessly with Microsoft® Remote Installation Services (RIS).

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada – January 6, 2004 Argon Technology announces the immediate availability of their newest product, a fully managed 10/100 Fast Ethernet Cardbus network adapter for notebook computers. With the new manageable PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) enabled adapter installed on their notebooks, IT departments can use PXE based software to remotely manage them. PXE can also be used to deploy operating system upgrades using Microsoft Remote Installation Services (RIS), Argon Client Management Services software or any other third-party PXE-based management application.

This adapter is the first Cardbus adapter available that supports Microsoft RIS, without the need for other software or driver files.

This solves a major problem for IT managers who have a large installed base of notebooks that are not PXE-compliant and they cannot use RIS or any other of the latest management software.

“Until now, it was impossible to use Cardbus network adapters with RIS without the use of third-party applications such as Argon’s RIS Menu Editor. The EP-4103DL-PXE works out-of-the-box with RIS allowing you to deploy RIS CD-based and RIPREP images.” says Conrad Lawes, Argon Technology’s Technical Services Manager. “Now, owners of laptops can take full advantage of RIS or any other PXE service at a cost-effective price.”

The product uses Argon’s PXE on Disk™ technology to enable the manageability of the adapter. PXE on Disk allows the notebook system to boot from the network and connect to a PXE supported server before the operating system is loaded from the local hard disk.

In addition to PXE, support is also available for RPL, NetWare, DHCP and BOOTP legacy network booting protocols, giving users total flexibility.

Key Features of the EP-4103DL-PXE include:

Compliance with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3x industrial standards
Direct connection to the LAN without media couplers no dongle required
Support for 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation, full- or half-duplex
Plug-and-Play installation, auto-setup IRQ and I/O address
Hot-swappable, low power consumption, diagnostic LEDs

The EP-4103DL-PXE Fast Ethernet adapter card is priced at $49.98 US, and is available from Argon Technology’s online store at http://www.bootroms.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/304.
